July 2025: When bear cub Dori was listed for €5,000, his future looked grim. Orphaned and far too young to survive on his own, he faced a lifetime of suffering. Thanks to swift action, Dori is now safe at our BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina but he will need lifelong care, as it is too late to rehabilitate him into the wild. The BEAR SANCTUARY Prishtina offers19 formerly neglected bears from Kosovo and Albania an appropriate lifelong home. Three of the bears living here were kept illegally as pets when they were just a few weeks old. At our sanctuary, they got the chance to grow up under professional supervision and in a species-appropriate environment. They can roam freely, dig dens, bathe and hibernate at their own free will.
Experienced caretakers and veterinarians provide the bears with individual treatments and help them recover from their ordeals. FOUR PAWS works closely with scientists and universities affiliated with the project. The natural environment allows researchers to study and document the bears and to monitor the recovery and the progress of stereotyped behavioural patterns.
