 Tiger Tajmir is a 12-year-old male tiger that was confiscated from private keeping by the authorities in Czechia. Tiger Tajmir was originally born in 2013 in a big cat breeding facility in Czechia and was then transferred in 2015 to a private owner. The authorities learned that tiger Tajmir was being kept by this owner without the appropriate paperwork, and he was also being kept in conditions that do not meet the minimum requirements under Czech legislation. When the private owner failed to rectify this situation, the authorities decided to confiscate tiger Tajmir.

In the meantime, the owner ended up in financial trouble and had to foreclose on his property in March 2025. At this point, the owner abandoned tiger Tajmir in his property, and the Czech authorities, with the help of staff from a local zoo, visited the tiger regularly to make sure that he was receiving basic care. Finally, in April 2025, Zoo Liberec was able to take over the tiger and provide him with temporary care until a permanent home could be found for him. 

Just imagine spending your entire life in such conditions - only knowing hard, bare, concrete floors within the confines of cold steel bars?  This was Tajmir’s life for over a decade. This was all he could experience, barely surviving.  Does he know that there is a whole world outside the cold concrete walls that surround him? After a thorough evaluation, it was agreed that FELIDA Big Cat Sanctuary can offer a suitable new home for the 12-year-old tiger.

pP_Rescue-2We rescue animals in need worldwide, ending the suffering of animals with continuing help and medical care. Over the years, we have rescued more than 400 bears and big cats, among many other species.

We provide a safe home for wildlife such as big cats, bears, and orangutans rescued from non-species-appropriate keeping conditions around the world. We operate 13 sanctuaries and cooperation projects where rescued animals can start over.
