FOUR PAWS continues to care for over 60 big cats and 2 bears from the former zoo in Argentina!
Be part of their future. Donate today.
In September 2025, the FOUR PAWS team arrived at the former Zoo Luján in Argentina, where the animals had been living in deeply inadequate conditions. Their situation was truly heartbreaking – confined to cramped enclosures and lacking proper care. Our priority was to address the animals’ immediate needs and improve their living conditions. We reinforced enclosures, improved feeding routines, and prepared for a complex emergency mission.
Many of the animals required immediate veterinary attention – and thanks to supporters like you, we were able to provide it.
During the next phase of the mission, our team focused on delivering essential medical treatments. Over 16 days in October and November, the FOUR PAWS team performed emergency surgeries, diagnosed internal organ diseases, and treated infections, ingrown claws, open wounds, and severe dental issues.
We prioritised the most urgent cases, relieving animals from daily pain and suffering. These interventions were both intense and emotionally challenging.

What’s next for the animals from the former zoo?
FOUR PAWS is committed to securing long‑term, species‑appropriate environments for the animals and the first rehoming solutions have already been found.
BEAR SANCTUARY Belitsa has welcomed bears Gordo and Florencia, allowing them to finally begin their physical and psychological recovery.
In July 2026, FOUR PAWS aims to relocate nine tigers and six lions to LIONSROCK Big Cat Sanctuary in South Africa – one of our most complex big cat rescues.
These big cats have spent years confined to inadequate enclosures, suffering from chronic health issues and lasting psychological effects of inappropriate keeping. At LIONSROCK, they will finally have what they have been denied for so long: open space to roam, expert lifelong care, and the environment designed around their natural needs.
This carefully coordinated rescue will involve specialised transport, experienced veterinary teams, and tailored preparation for each animal to ensure their safety every step of the way.
We need your support to make these plans a reality. Every donation counts.

Bring hope to the animals from the former Zoo Luján.

What we do with your support
FOUR PAWS is the global animal welfare organisation for animals under direct human influence, which reveals suffering, rescues
animals in need and protects them.
Since 1988 we reveal inappropriate and life-threatening conditions for animals. We campaign and raise awareness of issues, lobbying for the protection of animals under direct human influence.
We rescue animals in need worldwide, ending the suffering of animals with continuing help and medical care. Over the years, we have rescued more than 400 bears and big cats, among many other species.
